How Satellite TV Works
(Basic Description)
The satellite receives signals
that are transmitted from a provider, either Dish Network or Directv®,
and then re-transmits those signals to earth where they are received
by a small dish that is mounted on the customers roof.
Satellite TV is a wonderful
invention in that it enables the viewer to receive access to hundreds
of channels. There are many more channels available with satellite
tv than with cable.
In general, Satellite TV
allows you to have a clearer picture, great sound and a variety
choices in entertainment programming.
The first thing that happens
is the satellite tv providers check the signals for quality. The
signals are then encrypted for security reasons before they are
transmitted back up to the satellites. Each satellite tv provider
has their own private satellites.
The satellites then 'bounce'
these signals back down to earth where they are received on your
satellite dish. Your satellite dish then gathers this information
and sends all the signals right to your satellite tv receiver where
they are unscrambled and turned into a picture that can be viewed
on your television screen.
For the most part, satellite
tv reception is rarely interupted. On occasion, severe weather or
sun flares may temporarily interupt your signal. This is so rare
that satellite tv reception is generally more reliable than cable
television services.
